This breed originated in the north of England and is named for a village there. A hardy dog, it is able to get over the rough terrain known as fells, as well as go to ground. It will first try to get its quarry to bolt from its burrow by barking but will go in after it by digging if necessary. A no-frills working dog, the Patterdale is game and hardy as any terrier going. Most of the Patterdales are kept by masters of fox hunts or used as vermin exterminators. Our girl will point if the prey is a bird or bark if prey is vermin.
This is a sweet young dog (red head w/floppy ears)who has a high level of energy and no tolerance for cold, very short hair. She cannot be left tied outside unless the temps are 74 F or above as in the summer time. She will suffer from the cold with obvious signs of discomfort like hunching and shivering. Leaving her outside when temps. dip down is unacceptable. You will need to leave her inside your heated home while away with some means for her to go outside to the restroom. She's in positive approach obedience training, patience and a little more work will round out her schooling.
She comes furnished with a dog powered treadmill, box of dog toys and raw hide chews, dog clothes, outside coats & boots. Her harness, lead and dog items will go with her at time of sale.
Older, dog respecting children (12yrs. or older) are acceptable for this small 15 lb. dog. She is looking for an older single person or family to take her into their hearts.
There will be a back round check prior to placement and a safety inspection to ensure the dog is in a home that will protect her and care for her.
