Frequently Asked Questions
What is the steamer insert used for?
The steamer insert is ideal for steaming foods and as a colander for rinsing fruits and vegetables.

What is 18/10 stainless steel, and why is it important?
The stainless steel used in the iCook® stainless steel pans is type 304, which contains 18-20% chromium and 8-10% nickel, thus, 18/10.

What are the handles on my cookware made from?
iCook handles and knobs are made from phenolic material, a durable compound that resists heat and wear.

What size pan should I use?
You want to keep a good ratio between food and added liquids. Make sure the food fills the pan at least two-thirds full, then add the liquids called for. A pan that's too small will crowd the foods and they will cook unevenly. A pan that's too large may not create the moisture seal. It's also important to use a burner the same size as the pan.

May I put iCook Cookware in the oven?
You may use iCook Cookware in the oven or on the stovetop. The pans can be used in an oven at temperatures up to 400 degrees F (204 degrees C). Remember, oven temperatures can vary significantly from the temperature indicator dial. Check the actual temperature occasionally, using an oven thermometer. Never use the pans for broiling, since temperatures can easily exceed 500 degrees F (260 degrees C). Frequent use of this cookware in the oven can dull the appearance of the handles.

May I use iCook Cookware on my ceramic cooktop?
Yes. The fully encapsulated aluminum slab base is compatible with all common cooktops, from gas and electric to glass and ceramic stoves.

Do I need special utensils for my iCook Cookware?
Use nylon, plastic, rubber, coated, or wooden utensils to maintain the appearance and performance of the nonstick interior. While iCook Nonstick Cookware is resistant to damage from metal utensils, it can be damaged if you use metal utensils, like knives, frequently.

How does the Vitalok™ cooking method lock in nutrients?
By forming a moisture seal between the lid and the pan, which prevents additional steam from escaping. Retaining moisture during cooking helps retain the nutrients in the food. Because you use less water, foods also look and taste fresher.

If there's a moisture seal, how do I check on my food?
The moisture seal is broken when you lift the lid. But you can still check your food by lifting the lid just high enough to insert a fork inside the pan. Try not to check food too often. As you become accustomed to cooking with iCook Cookware, you'll learn how quickly foods cook, and you won't need to check as often.

How does the Vitalok cooking method work?
It works by creating a moisture seal from condensation inside the pan lid. As steam condenses on the inside of the pan's lid, the water runs down into a channel in the rim of the pan. When the channel has filled with water, the seal is formed. From that time on, all moisture is trapped inside the pan, instead of escaping into the air. The retained steam cooks the food more quickly, which keeps more nutrients in the food, and reduces the total amount of liquids you need to add to your food.

How can I make the Vitalok seal form?
Cover the pan with the correct lid and place it on medium heat. In about 3–5 minutes, vapor will begin to escape from the lid and you may hear a faint fluttering sound. Try to spin the lid. If it spins freely, the moisture seal has formed. Then turn the heat to low. That's it. If you hear a sputtering instead of a fluttering, the heat is too high. Take the pan off the burner and turn the heat to low. Spin the lid to confirm the seal has formed and put the pan back on the cooled burner.

What is stack cooking?
Stack cooking is a convenient feature of iCook Cookware, made possible by the Optitemp™ slab base. You can prepare more foods at one time by stacking a small pan on top of a larger pan, and cooking both pans of food on the same burner.

To stack cook, follow these simple steps:
In the larger pan, place foods like roasts and stews that weigh more, take longer to cook, or have more volume. When cooking meat, first preheat the pan to medium heat and brown the meat on both sides. Cover the larger pan with the Dome Lid and keep the heat on medium until the Vitalok moisture seal forms. Reduce heat to low.

Cover the smaller pan with its lid and keep the heat on medium until the Vitalok moisture seal forms. Then stack the smaller pan onto the larger covered pan.

No moisture seal is necessary for the smaller pan when you're melting, reheating, or keeping foods warm until serving.

Can I stack cook with an iCook Nonstick Frypan?
No. Nonstick frypans aren't designed for stack cooking.

How should I care for my iCook Cookware?
Before the first use, wash your cookware in a solution of Dish Drops® Concentrated Dishwashing Liquid and vinegar to remove any lingering manufacturing oils and polishes. Rinse thoroughly after washing.

Cleaning
Since regular dishwasher use will dull the appearance of the handles, hand washing is recommended. After each use, hand wash as soon as possible with Dish Drops Concentrated Dishwashing Liquid and hot water.

Storage
iCook Cookware lids nest within the pans, so you can stack them in a cupboard or on a shelf. iCook handles are designed with a hanging hole, so they can also be hung from an overhead cookware rack.

I burned some food in my pan. How can I clean this?
It depends on which type of pan. Follow instructions below:

For saucepans, sauté pans, and Dutch oven:

Most burnt-on food can be removed. First, place enough water in the pan to cover the burnt-on food. Bring this to a boil. Often, this will be sufficient to lift the food from the surface of the stainless steel.

If that does not work, clean your cookware using Legacy of Clean Soft Cleanser and a soft sponge. Scrub in the same circular direction as the brushed finish on the inside of the pan. Rinse thoroughly and reapply if needed.

Cleaning burnt-on food can be difficult and may take some effort. Remember that when cooking with iCook Cookware, you should be cooking at low to medium temperatures. Never leave food that is cooking unattended on the stovetop.

For Nonstick Items:

Removal of burnt-on food from nonstick can be a challenge because the high heat that has caused the foods to burn can damage the nonstick coating.

If you have burned food in your nonstick pan, place some water in the pan to cover the burnt-on food. Bring this to a boil. Often, this will be sufficient to lift the burnt-on food from the surface of the pan.

If that does not work, clean your cookware using Dish Drops and a soft sponge. Rinse thoroughly and repeat if needed. When finished cleaning, season the pan by wiping the surface with vegetable oil. Heat on low until the pan is just warm to the touch. Remove from the heat and allow to cool. Repeat if necessary.

Cleaning burnt-on food can be difficult and may take some effort. Remember that when cooking with iCook Cookware, you should be cooking at low to medium temperatures. Never leave food that is cooking unattended on the stovetop.

What is the warranty for my iCook Cookware?
There is a lifetime warranty on all iCook stainless cookware pieces, lids, and inserts. There is a 5-year, limited warranty on all iCook nonstick frypans and tempered glass lids.

Your satisfaction with your iCook purchase is guaranteed. If, within 120 days, you are not completely satisfied with your iCook Cookware, your purchase price and applicable tax will be refunded. Which pots does the Junior Dome Lid fit? The Senior Dome Lid?
The Junior Dome Lid fits on the Small Sauté Pan, the 3-quart Saucepan, and the 4-quart Dutch Oven. The Senior Dome Lid fits on the Large Sauté Pan and the 8-quart Dutch Oven.

What's the difference between the iCook Nonstick Frypans and the Sauté pans? Why do I need both?
The iCook Nonstick Frypans have a nonstick coating and a single-ply body with a sloping edge to make it easy to slide food, like omelets and pancakes, out of the pan after cooking. The Sauté pans have a stainless steel finish and a multi-ply body, for better heat distribution.

Do I need to season the Nonstick Frypans and Sauté pans after using them for a while?
Nonstick pans should be seasoned occasionally by applying oil to the surface of the pan. Do not use cooking sprays on the surface because they leave a residue that is difficult to remove. The sauté pans don't need any seasoning.

Do the Mixing Bowl Lids have a warranty?
The Mixing Bowl Lids do not have their own warranty. However, they do have a 120-day satisfaction guarantee.

Are the Mixing Bowl Lids dishwasher safe?
No. Washing the lids in the dishwasher could cause them to warp.

Can I put the Mixing Bowls in the freezer? In the oven?
The Mixing Bowls can be placed in the freezer. Do not put the lids in the freezer, because they may shrink, breaking the seal with the bowl. However, storing foods in the Mixing Bowls for an extended period of time is not recommended, since some foods can pit the stainless steel.

The Mixing Bowls are not intended for oven use. The Mixing Bowl Lids must never be put in the oven.

How do I care for the Mixing Bowls and Lids?
Before first use, wash each piece in Dish Drops Dishwashing Liquid or Legacy of Clean Multi-Purpose Cleaner and a small amount of vinegar. This removes any oils or polishes left from the manufacturing process. It is best to hand wash the bowls and lids with Dish Drops Dishwashing Liquid as soon as possible after each use. Legacy of Clean Soft Cleanser can be used on the bowls. Legacy of Clean Pads can be used on the inside surfaces of the bowls. Do not use Scrub Buds, steel wool, or abrasive powders on the mirror-finish exterior surfaces.

How do I keep iCook Cookware looking shiny? What if I have hard water?
It is best to hand wash pans with Dish Drops Dishwashing Liquid as soon as possible after each use. Legacy of Clean Soft Cleanser can be used on all surfaces of the pans and lids. Legacy of Clean Pads can be used on the inside surfaces of the pans.

Do not use Scrub Buds, steel wool, or abrasive powders on the mirror-finish exterior surfaces. Hard-water spots can be removed by cleaning with either lemon juice or vinegar.

How many layers are the stainless steel pans constructed of and what are the materials?
The iCook stainless steel pans are made of three layers - Type 304 stainless steel, carbon steel and again Type 304 stainless steel. The bottom slabs are constructed of aluminum and Type 430 stainless steel. The aluminum is fully encapsulated to prevent corrosion.

Can I use nonstick cooking sprays on my iCook nonstick fry pans?
You should never use nonstick cooking sprays on a nonstick fry pan. Instead, you may season your pan periodically with a small amount of vegetable oil, olive oil or peanut oil. Simply rub inside the pan with a soft cloth. Repeat as needed (every 15-20 uses or so) if you hand wash the pans, and after every time in the dishwasher (it is not recommended that you place your iCook cookware in an automatic dishwasher).
