Is sending a payment via Western Union safe?

I want to buy something from an advertiser and they're asking to be paid via wire transfer. Is sending a payment via Western Union safe?

Wire transfers offer no protection for the sender of the money and scammers know this and manipulate the systems to their advantage and it's all to easy to send your money to an untraceable person who could be on the other side of the world.

We recommend sending payments via known and trusted systems such as PayPal, a reliable escrow service, or good old fashion check sent through the mail.
