I was extremely nervous beforehand; I was given oral sedation before the procedure by Dr. Patel and was made very comfortable. Dr. Patel’s procedure seemed to take no time at all and I had little memory of it. Also, I felt fine as the sedation wore off. An absence of basic dental care, especially in children and youngsters can result not only in cavities and unsightly cosmetic problems but it can also lead to gingivitis, or gum disease as it is more commonly known, an unpleasant condition that can be hard to cure once it sets in. 1. Find a good dentist
Ask your friends and work colleagues who they use and whether their dentist has a good demeanour. Hard as it is to believe when you are laid back in that chair with your mouth open and vulnerable, but dentists are folks too. Some deal better with nervous patients than others.
2. Interview your dentist
Before undertaking an inspection or a course of work, organize to have an interview with your dentist. Explain your fear and ask them how they are going to help you to be as stress free as it's possible to be during your visits.
3. Take a friend with you
Check that your dentist will permit you to have someone with you to reassure you and mentally or physically hold your hand during the procedure.
4. Learn how to relax and breathe
If you straight away turn into a human impression of a stiff plank of wood as soon as you enter a dental surgery, the chances are that learning some type of relaxation will help you. Even an easy respiring exercise will all help. Then when it's your time to make the feared visit, take yourself into relaxation mode. Inhale deeply and calmly, rather than the common hyperventilation.
5. Brush your teeth continually and floss often
Prevention beats the cure. Make sure your teeth are kept in pristine condition with repeated brushing and flossing. That way there's less chance of any dental work needing to be done and you can begin to perhaps even look forward to your visits to the dentist because you know no work should have to be done.
