Chillin' and Grillin' Back Yard Barbeque With a Brinkman Smoker GrillI was thinking about getting a gas grill, but when the opportunity arose to get a Brinkman Smoker Grill at a super price, I jumped at the chance even though I had never used a smoker grill. I figured, never too old to learn, right??? I have since discovered, that this was a GREAT decision. There is a gourmet version Brinkmann 852-7080-V Gourmet Charcoal Smoker and Grill with Vinyl Cover, Black and also, a regular version.Brinkmann 810-5301-C Smoke-N-Grill Charcoal Smoker and Grill
The gourmet version is a little bit more expensive, but I suppose either one can do a respecttable job.
If you don't know anything about smoker grills, please allow me to give you a brief explanation of how a smoker grill is set up (at least mine).
At the bottom of the grill you have a charcoal pan----That's where the chracoal goes if your going to use the grill as a smoker. You can also use the grill like a regular grill, if you move the charcoal pan to the top.
If you are going to smoke meat or veggies, fill the charcoal pan with charcoal. (DO NOT USE SELF LIGHTING CHARCOAL!!!!). Get yourself some smoking wood (like Hickory Chips or Applewood) and soak the chips in water for as long as possible before you actually use them. The bigger the chips are the better, as they will last longer if they are bigger.
Above the charcoal pan is a water pan. You'll probably have a cookbook that tells you how much water for cooking different items. Then you will have two cooking racks. One that goes right above the water pan, and one that goes all the way at the top of the grill. You can put meats on both levels of the grill. If you have meats that take different times to cook, put the ones that take the longest on the bottom rack. If all the meat is the same, they will actually get done cooking at around the same time.
