Make a mixture of one part of white vinegar to one part of cold water.
Apply this cleaning solution to the stain in your rug preferably saturating the area by using a spray bottle.
Allow this to sit undisturbed for perhaps ten or fifteen minutes.
Clean the stained area in a rubbing motion with a soft sponge. or a little longer if necessary.
Rinse off the stained area of the carpet with warm (not hot) clean water.
Brush the carpet pile back into the natural direction it naturally lies in.
Put a layer of a number of thicknesses of clean white paper towels over the work area. Put a heavy item such as a book or brick on top of the paper towels and leave until dry.
