Yoga has long been known as a relaxing exercise, not to mention a
proven method to stay healthy and fit. When practicing yoga, it can be
much more effective with a good yoga mat. Yoga exercise mats ensure that
yoga is practiced in a more comfortable focused and unconstrained
manner. Unfortunately, there are numerous health risks associated with
the use of PVC in yoga mats, choosing to use a natural yoga mat can help
incorporate protection to the environment as well as with the yogis'
health and passion for yoga.

If you are looking for a mat that comes from a renewable source,
consider using a natural rubber one. These mats are said to be
eco-friendly because they are made from a rubber tree and are
biodegradable. These natural rubber mats that are made from this are a
great solution because they can be trashed and will break down when you
no longer want them. These mats however, do contain natural latex, which
is an allergy for some, so watch for this. If you are the type to break
out, finding a synthetic version can solve the problem. These are a
little pricy, but if you are going to be using yours over and over, it
may be worth the price.

If you are looking for a plant fiber mat, there are several to choose
from. Some plant fiber mats are made from jute, hemp, or cotton. Made
from plants, these mats, like the ones made from rubber, are
biodegradable. Some of these are even certified organic for the
environmentally conscious consumer.

Another great choice for an eco-friendly mat is one made from
alternative plastics. These mats are made to be environmentally
conscious, however; they aren't made from natural sources. Perhaps two
of the most popularly used plastics to make mats that are eco-friendly
are "PER," or polymer environmental resin, and "TPE," thermoplastic
elastomers, both of which are synthetic. Neither of these are made with
toxic substances like the ones made with PVC.

With all of the importance that is being put on the protection of our
environment, more and more people are now turning towards more
eco-friendly alternatives. And for many yogis, an eco-friendly yoga mat
is an absolute essential. Yet, there are still several things to
consider when looking for a more eco-friendly yoga mat. If you do not
wish to pay for a lot of cash, consider mats produced from alternative
plastics. But, if you are willing to invest in naturally produced mats
to maximize eco-friendliness significance both for the sake of the
environment and yoga practice, switching to yoga mats made using
sustainable resources, such as natural rubber, cotton, jute, or hemp
should be a priority choice. These mats are generally pricier than the
regular synthetic mats, but they are worth the price to provide the most
comfort and support while you breathe deep and do your poses.
