The month of November is American Diabetes Month, within which advocates and organizations work in collaboration to broaden information, at the same time educating people on the seriousness of diabetes and the significance of proper diabetes control. In the same note, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is a prominent proponent of research for cure and prevention of Type 1 Diabetes worldwide.

Type 1 Diabetes onset is most often immediate, and once diagnosed the disease lasts for a lifetime. Type 1 Diabetes is generally diagnosed in children, teenagers, or young adults, but can occur in any individual at any age. People diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes have little or no insulin production at all. This is because their bodies' natural immune system are attacking and destroying the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Insulin is crucial to manage sugar in the blood, so patients must depend on regular insulin injections or an insulin pump to control their blood glucose levels. But, insulin treatment is not enough to eliminate diabetes and prevent long term complications. For that reason, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has been researching and studying different options to find a cure for this particular diabetes.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation was established in 1970 through the efforts of parents of children with Type 1 Diabetes. Their main cause is to fund researches intended to finding a cure for juvenile diabetes. Today, the foundation has funded more than $1.3 billion of scientific diabetes research worldwide. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has also been distributing treatments that can aid the immune system, replace islet cells and regenerate beta cells that are vital for insulin, and regulate metabolism. And though the organization has basically to do with the scientific part of fighting diabetes, it incorporates people from all over who have the same dedication that is to find a cure. Researchers from academe and industry, businessmen, volunteers, donors and supporters work jointly in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to advance research, to give out charity effectively, and to lead people in the community.

There are a number of ways we can become involved in Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We can make donations, take part in fund raisers, participate in clinical trials, purchase merchandise, volunteer or work for the organization, and share information in many avenues like diabetes blogs, school campaigns, etc. Diabetes is a disease with deadly consequences. Today, 24 million Americans have diabetes, and 1 out of every 3 children born is at risk for diabetes, drastic action should be done.
