Review: Can I use Automotive Car batteries in my Hoveround Wheelchair?

The simple answer is NO.

The automotive or car battery is designed to provide very high current for a very short time. The car's starter draws a very large current when the car key is engaged to start the car. Once a car starts, its alternator provides power for the car's computer, headlights, radio, and also to recharge the battery so it is ready for the next time the car needs to start.

But a wheelchair or power chair or other mobility scooter needs a battery that provides a current capacity that can be drawn from the battery at a moderate rate, yet maintain a solid level of current output. The Sealed Lead Acid battery provides this storage capacity and is designed for efficient current delivery over a longer period of time.
