Glass Plate Drawing of human organs, titled Topography of Organs (25”Wx33”H).
This is an original drawing on glass of the circulatory system by Pierre Lariviere. The photographic plate was made in the 1930’s. Its purpose was to produce large format (44”x72”) Human Anatomy Charts for the Denoyer-Geppert Company.
To-date research on the artist suggests that he was a lithographer and exhibited in Paris in 1908 and 1912 before coming to the United States in the early 1930’s. This full figure study is more than simply a diagram of a body: it is a serene three-dimensional perspective presented in a contemplative form.
I do not know the process used to create the image or to create the photograph, though I do believe this plate to be an original. Printed images from this and other plates may be seen in the Denoyer-Geppert International catalog for 1999-2000, pages 86 and 87.
