Many people have owned a futon in the past and within a couple of years it ended up in the junk pile out at the curb.

Why is this?

While futons and their cheap mattresses have been around for many many years, it wasn't too long ago that many fine looking ones starting showing up in most of the larger discount stores across the country and they seemed to be a quick and particularly cheap solution to not only having a couch but also an extra bed in the house.

It turned out that most if not all of these fine looking products were inexpensive because they were in fact "cheap". If the frame did not break after only a year or so of use the padding or "mattress" was either all flat or lumpy well before its time.

Well... times sure have changed.
