Network marketing prospecting- the term almost brings to mind the picture of someone taking a pickaxe, a shovel and mining for gold-which figuratively, is what you're doing. This alone is probably the greatest barrier to success in network marketing for many people. In fact if you're struggling in network marketing it is likely because of this factor. The Difference Between Network Marketing Prospecting And Recruiting Here's why: 1- You don't like doing it.- For many people this is a huge phobia-usually associated with concern about making that first call, turning a conversation your way, or approaching someone else in the first. fear holds more people back in this business than anything else-whether it is fear of criticism, rejection, ridicule, or something else. But here's the kicker: if you're out there prospecting you will have people say no to your opportunity. And difficult as it may seem, that's good because if you get enough no's, you're going to eventually get some yes's as well. 2- You're not prospecting the right people. Perhaps the biggest mistake people make, and the one that is made the most often. You're looking for people that want something more- not who are "needy". It may seem great to get your poor best friend involved or that neighbor who always needs money- but if you're going to have to pull all the weight you're better off looking elsewhere. In fact I know some people who make it a rule to ONLY do their network marketing prospecting with people who they know already have money, but maybe want to spend more time with their family or don't want to work for someone else anymore. And that's a very effective strategy! Don't waste your time with people who are continually lazy. You can't rescue them until they want to be rescued. 3- You're not reaching enough people Finding a way to expand your sphere of influence and accomplish more effective network marketing prospecting means using more than traditional methods of placing some phone calls and talking to everyone you meet about your business. You want quality prospects for your business-people are interested in what you have to offer.
