The Timmerman School believes the child is an eager and willing participant in the action of learning if given a stimulating and nurturing environment. To foster this desire, the faculty, staff, and administration of Timmerman strive to provide a safe, creative, thought-provoking atmosphere in which a child can learn to wonder, question, create decision making skills, and comprehend the meaning and function of the world around him or her. The development of self discipline, resourcefulness, responsibility, respect for others, and respect for self is, therefore, fundamental to the school's educational philosophy. It is the goal of the school to produce graduates with highly developed thinking skills who are well grounded in all fundamental academic disciplines.
Since its founding in 1954, Timmerman has provided thousands of Columbia-area and Midlands children with the city's finest educational experience. In addition to the basic academic subjects, the school also provides exposure to and training in Spanish, computer science, the arts, and physical education. The school consist of classes ranging from three-year-old kindergarten to the eighth grade and also provides an on-campus, after-school care program during the academic year. During the summer months, Timmerman hosts an extended care program as well as academic and athletic camps for all students. Receiving the highest accreditation granted by the South Carolina Independent Schools Association, The Timmerman School is recognized as one of South Carolina's top academic environments.
At Timmerman, we are convinced of the mastery on the elementary level of the basic fundamentals of reading, writing skills, and mathematics. Phonics is the core of our highly successful reading program. We feel that basic mathematical concepts are integral to competing in the world of today and teach them with the same enthusiasm we use in instructing students in our new computer-filled technology lab.
