Free 17 yo Registered TB gelding - Great Grandson of Secretariat.Blood Bay. 17hh with a big girth.
He was originally at a rescue and adopted by an older woman who found that he was too strong for her. She then gave him away to what she thought was a good home - where he was starved. He came back to her and 1 mo later to me.
Nothing I was told about this horse turned out to be true. He trails nicely for me, and when the other horses spook he just looked at the object. I can get on him and he bends/ turns w/ leg aids not rein. He needs to build strength in the back in order to collect himself at the canter more. He does NOT pull as I was told that he does - he just does not know/have the strength to collect himself. I have jumped him - and he loves it. He finds his own distances and has zero hesitation. All of that being said - he would be good w/ a strong beginner or intermediate rider. If someone is timid he WILL take complete advantage of them. He just needs to be told no and it will end it - he is not a fighter. I have given lessons to an 8 year old on him and because she was confident he was fine. I have had a 14 yo on him and he just kept trying to walk out of the ring. Its all in the rider.
He does not like to get onto a bumper pull and can be a pain to load unless it is the stock style or bigger. But once on he trailers like a dream. He cross ties. He is UTD on vaccines/coggins - will need his next west nile. He is UTD w/ farrier and is currently doing well barefoot. The dentist comes this week.
He is shy and distant w/ people until he gets to know them then he is a love bug and will lick your hand like a dog would. He loves to be brushed and fussed over once he gets to know you and will snooze away when you use a soft brush.
We unfortunately have been hit hard by the economy and need to downsize - I am only getting rid of him bc I have to or else this horse would spend out the rest of his days with me and the pain in the butt colt that lives with him. I do not want to see him go into a situation like he was in previously.
I will send pictures, which do not do him justice, if interested.
