When we ride, we gain 1,000 pounds and 40 inches; that's a lot of mass to control! Riders must have their own balance or the horse will compensate.
Secondly, we raise the horse's center of gravity. His reaction is to tip forward – imagine wearing a very tall backpack – we tip forward to carry it so it doesn’t unbalance us and make us fall back or sideways. Likewise, the horse puts his weight on the front legs to balance the load, which makes it difficult to stop or start and easy to buck. This is why we say green horses are “on the forehand” and require a more experienced rider. It's the rider’s job to re-balance the equation and help the horse engage the hindquarters.

Whoa-Ga! uses yoga to solve the balance issues; first by increasing the rider’s self awareness and then by teaching the biomechanics and WHY’S of equitation with riding exercises to balance the horse.

Whoa-Ga! is an education program that uses yoga to teach horseback riding with dismounted exercises on the yoga ball which we later apply in the saddle.
Here is what we DO…
1. YOGA on the yoga ball and floor to develop muscle memory and core strength while discussing the bio-mechanics of riding and discovering what our horse feels when we ride.
2. GROUND EXERCISES with the horse to make sure they are focused on the job and we are communicating clearly in their language.
3. RIDING EXERCISES to use the morning yoga/body awareness exercises to balance the rider and obstacles and proper use of the reins to balance the horse.
