|Gita is a one year old, pure Maremma Sheepdog. The breed is the Italian version of a Great Pyrenees, but a little bit smaller. She has the typical LSG personality: smart, confident and independent. At the same time, she is well trained. She comes when she is called even if she happens to be chasing something. She will heel off leash and will sit/stay at a distance. She loves attention and affection and is a great watch dog, being unusually alert to everything going on around her. When we're inside, Gita is snuggling up with our milk cow.|
We go for a daily walk in a wildlife preserve and often encounter other dogs. Gita is well socialized and I can expect her to greet strangers (dog or human) politely. She demonstrates unusual common sense. For instance, one time she was chasing a bear, but came immediately when I called her. However when my Pomoodle tried to get her to incited to challenge something (probably a bear) in a den, she prudently declined.
We are rehoming Gita because there is an issue with chickens. She doesn't chase them when we're watching, but they have been suspiciously turning up dead, but not eaten as would be expected from a coyote or other predator. Yesterday I caught her in the foul act, hence this ad.
Gita needs a home with a fenced yard. She will do well with children or other dogs. Her parents were livestock guardians for a herd of goats and sheep, so she comes from working stock. We have three cats who she tolerates, but I think she'd have to understand that any new cats are a part of the pack before she could be let loose with them.
Gita is not spayed.
