We are Yellow Pine Cattle Company in Kiowa, Colorado and in addition to grass fed Angus Beef, we raise Goats, Chickens, Turkeys, Ducks Geese but we also raise Colorado Mountain Dogs to guard our livestock on the ranch and will have extra puppies available for the public sometime in December 2017 when they are 8 weeks or older. These dogs are a carefully crafted mix between 2 of the most revered guard dog breeds in the world, the Great Pyrenees from the Pyrenees Mountain region on the border between France and Spain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pyrenees) and the Anatolian Shepherd who comes to us from Turkey where they have been guarding livestock for centuries. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatolian_Shepherd)

The genetics of this new breed were designed to capture the best traits of each breed and eliminate some of the negative health traits in the Pyrenees and we couldn't be more pleased with the results. These dogs are 75% Pyrenees and 25% Anatolian Shepherd and have the most gentle and agreeable disposition of any dogs I have ever seen and yet they are formidable guard dogs and will repel and scare away any intruders. The males can grow to be 120 lbs or more and the females weigh in around 90 lbs so they are large dogs but so gentle they cuddle and sleep with our Alpacas and even our barn cats. They are excellent around children and other pets and one of the easiest dogs to train.

Our male dog was originally named “Strider” and is the son of “Caspian” owned by Wendy J. Francisco (http://www.coloradomountaindogs.com/aboutcoloradomountaindogs.html) but we re-named him “Harley” because his demeanor reminded me so much of the easy going side kick of Jimmy Stewart played by Henry Fonda in the classic western ”Cheyenne Social Club”. We also have two females that are the exact same mix of 75% Pyrenees and 25% Anatolian that we imported from a reputable breeder in Texas who owned a goat ranch and shared her excess working guard dogs with us, just as we are doing for you. We paid $500 for each one of them and have always sold our puppies to others for the same price and have resisted the urge to raise our prices so we can keep them affordable for almost anyone and the initial expense of purchasing a dog is minor compared the the lifetime of proper food and care you will be providing for your new family member. If you research the breed, you will find many variations including 50/50 mixes and the introduction of other similar dog breeds into the Colorado Mountain Dog line in an attempt to further improve the breed. We have been so pleased with the results of breeding Harley with our 2 Texas girls that we are quite content to stick with the 75% / 25% mix and every one of our customers have been quite happy with them too.

We screen all potential buyers to make sure the puppies are going to good homes and welcome anyone to return their dogs to us at any time because we do not want any of them going to shelters because they are far too valuable and in too much demand as livestock guard dogs to be abandoned. Although we like to see them go to properties where they can practice their craft of guarding their owners and all the other pets or animals they own, many of our customers have made them house pets very successfully with proper training and attention. It may not work out well in a closed in city neighborhood if you leave them outside alone for long periods of time and expect them not to bark or disturb the neighbors because barking is how true working dogs communicate and warn intruders to stay away. We have numerous breeds of guard dogs in our part of Colorado and it is always amazing to hear them communicate back and forth like a countryside social network when an intruder comes near or passes through the area.

You are welcomed to come out to the ranch and see Harley and our girls, Hanna and Mattie, who are all "working" guard dogs, live outside with our animals and are on-site 24/7/365. We take exceedingly good care of our dogs and never breed our females more than once each year, therefore, the number of puppies available each year is limited.

The $500.00 price includes an initial Vet check and exam to ensure there are no congenital physical defects or health problems plus their first shots and worming, a health certificate, a Puppy Book for pictures and to record immunizations and other important things, a bag of Puppy Chow, and a certificate for another Free Vet Check and other discounted Veterinarian services for spaying and neutering at my daughter’s Vet clinic, Animal Care Center of Aurora. We offer the pups on a first come, first served basis and we will place names on our list in the order we receive full payments or partial down payments, typically $100.00. We take full payments or partial down payments to reserve a puppy and once they are old enough to show some personal traits so you can make a good choice of the puppy you like, we put a soft, colored, Velcro collar on them to identify them as yours. It is strictly first come, first served until they are all sold but you can also reserve a pup from the next litter. We will take puppies back if you are unable to keep them for any reason, but we do not give refunds for buyer’s remorse and only refund money when a congenital defect is discovered and verified by our Veterinarians.
You can reserve a puppy by sending a deposit of $100.00 . Make checks out to:
