When herding instinct isn't enough: Sure, I have puppies that will chase ducks- is that enough? Almost all border collie puppies will try to work ducks. It is estimated that 85 percent of border collie puppies could be raised and trained to herd sheep. It is estimated that less than 40 percent could herd goats- because they are more challenging and harder to herd. It is believed that less than 4 percent are capable of growing up to work cattle. Cattle are probably the most challenging and hardest stock for a dog to work. My dogs work cattle and are bred down from cattle working dogs. This dramatically increases the percentage of puppies growing up and developing into cow dogs. The cattle herding border collies are the cream of the crop, extremely valuable working dogs, the most coveted, treasured and prized of all border collies. My border collies herd cattle and my puppies are bred to do the same. Yet, I sell my puppies at working man prices.
