Buddy is sweet, loveable and clever umbrella cockatoo, and per the year on his breeder’s band, he’s about 12 or 13 years old and quite healthy. He is rather talkative and while he doesn’t say any actually words, as a parrot might, he will say things that sound close to, “hello”, “pretty bird” and “cockatoo”. He also has a tremendous belly laugh, and if people are talking and joking near him, he’ll pipe right in with his two seeds worth. He’s a bit mischievous, too, and you can see his devious smile when he’s up to something, like unlocking the padlock on his cage or swing the gate open and shut over and other again. As a bit of a dancer, he prefers the graceful steps of the polka or waltz over hyperactivity of the Hip Hop Revu and Zumba.
He likes to sit on shoulders and play with hair, ears and glasses. He will also cuddle on your lap and let you rub his neck as he coos and chirps softly. Cross your legs and put him on your shin and he’ll go to your shoe and play with the laces.
I came about Buddy as a bit of a rescue, purchasing him from someone in Longmont early this May. The previous owner would leave Buddy alone for days at a time without food or water. He also kept him secluded as Buddy, well, is a parrot-type of bird, and they can be loud to the point where his screeches escape a double brick wall in a machine shop with all the lathes running.
Not really, but you get the idea. These majestic birds, while loveable and long lived (up 60+ years, so this guy has a while), can also be boisterous. So on that note, please be advised that there are no returns.
But, sadly, I have become disabled and cannot attend to Buddy’s needs as I should, since I am bedridden most of the time. He requires attention, as most social birds do, and he would thrive in an active environment where noise is not an issue. It would be nice if Buddy could go somewhere that will attend to him as he deserves - he's a sensitive guy. And he hasn’t committed any felonies yet, and that time on the pirate ship doesn’t count, because it was in the Cayman Islands and out of US jurisdiction....at least none that I know about
I am asking a rehoming fee of $1000, cash only. I am not a bank so I don’t do checks or credits cards. As I am also not a breeder, I cannot ship or deliver. For this modest fee, you get:
- The Amazingly Loveable Buddy, the Umbrella Cockatoo
- A solid cage from California Cages, complete with two food dishes and poop tray with newspapers
that Buddy sometimes reads
- Food and stuff like that
- A few books on understanding and caring for cockatoos
And the satisfaction that you have just acquired one of the most beautiful specimens that Mother Nature has given us.
Please contact me if you are interested. I can also send you pictures if you like. And PLEASE do not contact me to try to sell me stuff.
