This is the beach where the famous opening scenes were filmed of the
athletes running across the sand to the music of Vangelis. A great deal
of exposure was given to this particular beach all over again in the
year of the 2012 Olympic games held in London, to such an extent that
when the Olympic torch was making its way around Britain one of the
young torch bearers ran along the beach in front of the cheering crowds.
Even the most hardy types would have to admit that it was all quite
emotional and it really did set the tone for the Olympic games down in
