The flame of an ordinary candle is the sole source of power in this amazing little engine which you can build from these plans. The engine resembles a horizontal type gasoline engine except for a hinged trapdoor at the head of the cylinder.
Actuated by a cam on the crankshaft this trapdoor opens and the candle flame is sucked into the cylinder. A vacuum then forms when the flame is cut off by the trap door closing, drawing the piston upward in the power stroke. The cycle is then repeated. Quite an amazing little engine which develops enough power to drive Erector models or similar items and other toys.
No fuel except the candle flame is needed. You need some lathe and metal working skills to build this great little model. No castings are needed which simplifies the work. You will construct an engine which will amaze and delight all who see it in operation with its unique candle flame and trapdoor mechanism.
