Monitoring Blood Glucose Regularly To Stop Diabetes Being diagnosed with diabetes can be scary. The good news
though is that it is a manageable condition. Armed with the right information
and the right products can help you comfortably live and prosper.

The Basics*

There are three main types of diabetes, Diabetes Type I,
Diabetes Type II and Gestational Diabetes. According to WebMd.com an estimated
7.8% of the population or 23.6 million people suffer from diabetes. Diabetes is
classed as a chronic metabolism disorder in that the body of a person with
diabetes does not produce enough insulin, produces no insulin or the cells do
not respond appropriately to the insulin that the pancreas produces.Check here to Know about Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes:

Type 1 diabetes, also called juvenile diabetes, is an
autoimmune disease. This type begins to develop in children and adolescents,
but it can appear at any age. It is a disease in which the body's immune system
destroys its own insulin producing cells. Oral medications are not effective in
treating Type I Diabetes. A person who has Type 1 Diabetes requires daily
injection of insulin.

Type 2 Diabetes:

Diabetes Type 2 is the most common form of diabetes, and
frequently seen in people with older age, overweight, familial history,
physical inactivity, previous history of gestational diabetes, and ethnicity.
This type of diabetes occurs when the pancreas produces insulin, but the body
is not able to use it correctly.

Gestational Diabetes:

Gestational Diabetes is a type of diabetes that occurs
during pregnancy. Although it is unknown what causes this form of diabetes, it
has been linked to the surge in hormones produced during pregnancy and the
body's inability to use up the insulin effectively. It normally ends after
pregnancy; however, women who have had gestational diabetes have a higher odd
of developing Type 2 diabetes as they get older.

Monitoring Glucose Levels In Your Blood

If you have diabetes, your healthcare provider probably told
you how important it is to monitor your blood sugar levels. There are several
ways to take your blood sugar readings, your doctor will instruct you about
controlling blood glucose levels, and will prescribe times you need to check
your sugars so as to achieve proper blood glucose range for your situation.

To check your sugars, you will use a meter, testing strips
and a lancet. Depending on the type of meter and lancet system, you will test
on your fingers or forearm. Since you may be testing several times a day, you
will need to pick the right system for you. When evaluating your testing system
you will need to think about the following items:

1. Is it easy to get a reading with the first lancing? 2.
How long does it take to see your results? 3. Is the lancing process as
painless as possible? 4. Will my insurance cover the testing kit I want?

Many people suffer from diabetes. If you find the right
glucose monitoring system, you will be able to accurately and effectively
manage your condition.
