You see, everything thing we do in life is based on a choice. That choice practiced on a daily basis becomes a habit. The neural pathways have been reconfigured to where that choice becomes second nature. The brain, however, doesn’t recognize the difference between a good or bad habit. It simply takes in the information we give it and processes it into new pathways.
For instance, there may be a day I wake up late for work. As a result, I don’t have time for breakfast, so I stop at the local doughnut shop on my way. The same thing happens the next day. Once again, I decide to swing by the doughnut shop for a mouth watering, chocolate bar. This continues every day until I am thirty pounds overweight. Now, I’m depressed, wondering how I put on so much weight? It all stems back to that one decision – to stop by the doughnut shop, which eventually developed into a habit. This example applies to all of the habits we have developed:
- Do you wonder why you’re broke all the time? Evaluate your financial habits.
- Do you wonder why you’re unhealthy? Evaluate your health habits, such as eating and exercise habits.
- Do you wonder why you’re depressed all of the time? Evaluate your thinking patterns, as well as what you’re reading, watching, and listening to each day.
