I noticed that it’s almost a trend amongst amateur soccer coaches to “steal” nutrition programs and diets that were initially aimed at other athletes and adjust them to their players. Although this is not necessarily a wrong way to go, you could definitely get more out of your players if you make them a specific nutritional plan and a diet. You can’t simply put all sports in a bowl and say “they’re all doing the same effort, so they need to eat the same”. A basketball player for example will spend more of his time sprinting or running at 3/4 sprint speed, whereas a soccer player will have a slower tempo, but for a longer time. The difference is that nutrients from the body are consumed differently by these two types of effort, hence the need for a specific nutrition and diet for soccer players.
