I
noticed that it’s almost a
trend amongst amateur soccer coaches to “steal”
nutrition programs and diets
that were initially aimed at other athletes and adjust them to their
players.
Although this is not necessarily a wrong way to go, you could
definitely get
more out of your players if you make them a specific nutritional plan
and a
diet.
You
can’t simply put all sports in a bowl and say
“they’re all doing the
same effort, so they need to eat the same”. A basketball
player for example
will spend more of his time sprinting or running at 3/4 sprint speed,
whereas a
soccer player will have a slower tempo, but for a longer time.
The
difference
is that nutrients from the body are consumed differently by these two
types of
effort, hence the need for a specific nutrition
and diet for soccer players. To
