Bar Mitzvah Speeches

Tips for Writing Great Bar Mitzvah Speeches

The bar mitzvah is an important rite of passage for Jewish males. This occasion marks the transition from boy to man, and is held when a boy turns 13 years of age. While the boy is still a child in the eyes of government law, he is no longer a child in the eyes of Jewish law. This means he is held accountable as an adult when it comes to spirituality. He is considered a man and treated as such in regard to his moral and ethical life. His parents are no longer held morally or spiritually accountable for his actions. If you are preparing for this event, you will need some bar mitzvah speeches.

Because this is such a proud and noteworthy day in the lives of a Jewish boy and his parents, speeches are definitely in order. There are usually two main speeches which are given. The child having the bar mitzvah gives a speech, and his father gives a speech. First, let's take a look at the youngster's speech and what it should include. The speech should include spiritual material taken from the Torah. Ethics of Our Fathers is a popular section from which to glean material. Another part of any good speech is including a little commentary about what the day means to you. And of course, the speech should include a thank you to not only parents and religious leaders but also everyone in attendance. Speeches should be kept to ten minutes or less, anything more than that can get boring for guests.

Then there's the father's speech. During this time, the father will talk about his pride for his son. You may want to include some personal anecdotes which demonstrate the character of the person you are writing about. The father's speech can be a brief toast or a ten-minute tribute. It all depends on your personal preferences and the message you want to express. You might also want to spice up your speech with a touch of humor. And of course, you will want to express your gratitude.

You can actually order bar mitzvah speeches written especially for you. Of course, ordering a speech written by someone else makes the speech less special. What you may want to do is write your own speech, but get the advice and input of a trusted spiritual advisor or speech writer to help you make your speech the best it can be while remaining your own work.
