Valkor’s Gold Making Guide Full Review
I said some months ago that this guide looks promising, but back then it wasn’t updated for The Burning Crusade (even though TBC had been released) and was 46 pages long. I rated it 7 / 10 at that time. Since then there’s been an update for The Burning Crusade, and a couple of more content updates, which show that Valkor takes his customers and his promise of free lifetime updates seriously. The latest edition is now 120 pages long.
Here’s some of what’s covered (my comments in paranthesis):
- Buying Low and Selling High with the Auction House (a solid guide to using the Auctioneer mod to trade the AH for money. It’s something that I do almost every day I play WoW myself, and I can confirm these techniques work. Best part: This can make you tens, even hundreds or thousands of gold, only by starting out with a few gold pieces.)
- Using Your Profession to Make You Money (not updated for the 60-70 part, but a good way to earn gold while leveling to 60. Especially with the gathering professions)
- New 1-375 Profession Guides Included. That’s right. Skill-up guides are now available in the member’s area for free for all primary and secondary professions (even including lockpicking). I’ve tried the herbalism and alchemy guides, and looked through the others and they look good (though the cooking guide I’ve written, freely available under "Free Guides", is better).
- Merchant Locations for Cheap and Rare Items (Pretty extensive list of items you can buy and resell more expensively. Works well even at lower levels.)
- Quick Instance Runs (Not really the best way to make gold, since most of the loot binds when picked up and cannot be sold to other players. However, if you can disenchant it or you want it for yourself then good for you.)
- Great Gold Making Spots (these are the pre-TBC gold making tips, that rocked back then, but most of which are outdated now. The economies have simply changed radically. Some will still work, though.)
- Auction House / Market (some neat tips on using the trade channel and the AH more effectively)
- Gold Making Tips (about a dozen or so random tips, that come in handy but are more situational than the rest)
- Low Level Gold Strategies (good strategies that can easily earn you several gold per hour, even before level 20, which isn’t bad at all)
- Burning Crusade Strategies (covers some of the best grinding spots that I use myself, merchant locations for cheap and rare items (again), and a lot of random gathering and grinding tips, as well as a section on rare mobs in outlands, many of whom have a 100% drop rate for blue items)
- AddOns that help you make more gold (I use most of them, they rock.)
- Daily Quests. Quests you can do every day that reward quite a bit of gold and reputation with various factions, and the nice thing is that it’s paid in cash and not some items you have to sell.
I’ve used many of the tips in this guide first hand, but some were new even to me. Especially the professions part was quite detailed and addressed both crafting and gathering professions.
So, how much gold can you expect to earn with this guide?
Truthfully, the sky is the limit. If you wanted to, you could earn hundreds of gold in your twenties just by trading the Auction House. Or you could get to level 70 and start earning 100-200 gold per hour from grinding, gathering or any of the other dozens of tips in this guide.
It’s definitely one of the best gold guides right now, and it looks like there will be timely future updates, too.
Last thing: The free 60 day WoW subscription card is only available if you send in a gold tip and it makes it into the guide.
