The Ultimate World Of Warcraft Guide
- 8 / 10
"The Ultimate World Of Warcraft Guide" is a web based collection of guides covering a broad range of WoW topics. It does have a lot of good content, and it’s getting better all the time. Since it’s updated often I have a hard time keeping this review 100% up-to-date, so check out their own presentation because there may be things included that I’ve missed here.
Let me first explain what you get on the inside, and then comment on it.
Here’s what it contains:
Exploits
To begin with, I advocate against using exploits for three reasons:

It’s immoral
It’s not necessary
It can get your account banned.
There’s another important point about exploits (at least in this guide): They’re weak! Listen, exploits are most often situational, or "fun but useless", or require another player, or class specific (so they probably won’t work for YOUR class) and so on… They only sound good because the copywriters are really good at making the exploits seem enticing and life changing when, in fact, they’re not.
Take for example the "Play WoW FREE!" exploit. Does it work? I haven’t tried it but, yes, it seems to work… for 24 hours or so. Forget the idea of playing WoW free forever, and forget the notion that exploits will give you a significant edge. Take the exploits as an interesting educational read, nothing more. Otherwise you’ll get disappointed when you buy the guide.
Now for the good stuff…

As you can see from the table above, the Ultimate WoW Guide contains talent builds (specs) up to level 70 for most classes, and level 60 for some. There are also comments on the various builds so you know if they’re good for raiding / PvE / leveling / PvP and such. This makes it pretty easy to figure out how to place talents if you need to.
Another very helpful feature is the loot lists for all instances from 1-70, and even battlegrounds, class quests, and reputations. Since a lot of WoW is about finding better gear, you’ll always know where to find the best items for your specific class.
Reputation Guides
To be honest, the reputation guides inside the Ultimate World of Warcraft Guide are nothing more than links to the articles at wowwiki.com where you can read up (for free) on how to raise your reputation with various factions.
Gold guides
There are two sections of gold guides here, one for World of Warcraft Classic and one for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. Both are good. I used to use the gold guides for WoW Classic quite extensively at level 60, and I’ve tested the level 70 gold guides too and they deliver on the promise of "150+ gold an hour". (And I haven’t seen some of these tips anywhere else.)
The guides don’t list too many ways to make gold, but a few good ones are all you need. You’ll also learn how to use Auctioneer (a mod) to make gold from trading the auction house, various gathering routes, but it’s mostly about grinding for gold.
Leveling Guides
There are several articles that will help you level up faster, even if it’s not the strongest area of the guide (but it has improved lately).
There’s a 26-60 grinding guide that I’ve used myself which is very good.
Recently a level 1-60horde questing guide has been added.
New for the Burning Crusade are two separate 60-70 Horde or Alliance Leveling guides based on questing. They’re a bit hard to understand, though, in my opinion (or maybe I’m just a bit slow).
Profession Guides
The profession guides included in The Ultimate WoW Guide are skill-up guides only (with a few comments and tips on the various professions here and there). Since you’ll be having 5 professions (two primary and first aid, cooking and fishing) this will save you a lot of time, and it’s also a great reference if you want to drop a profession and pick up a new one. There are guides for all professions except fishing. Basically, the guides list what you need to make or gather, where you can get recipes for it, and what mats you’ll need. Where it’s warranted, like with skinning and herbalism, there are separate guides for horde and alliance.
Some professions, like leatherworking, also have specializations and in some of the guides there are separate skill-up instructions for the specializations.
Overall, the profession guides is a pretty neat section of The Ultimate WoW Guide, and considering that some people charge $30 for this information alone then it’s a great deal to have it included.
Beginner’s Guide
There’s an entire 85 page beginner’s guide included in The Ultimate WoW Guide, downloadable in PDF format and as an audio book if you’d rather listen to it. I’ve seen guides like this sell for $20-30 alone. It’s written by an ex-WoW player and covers the basics including some of the Burning Crusade (the WoW expansion pack). However, the guide is not 100% accurate in its statements so you’d be well advised to take everything with a grain of salt. If you experience something in World of Warcraft that contradicts the guide, trust your experience.
You probably won’t read it more than once before you move on to the intermediate and advanced stuff, but since it’s included for free there’s nothing bad about that.
Other articles
Currently there are some articles here that may or may not interest you, such as: small pet guide, honor guide, combat ratings explained, profession trainers list, faction recipes rewards and more. It’s a nice addition to the guide, anyhow.
My conclusion
The Ultimate WoW Guide is pretty well rounded and gives good advice on a broad range topics.
The strongest point of "The Ultimate World Of Warcraft Guide" has to be the gold guide. It features lots of varied strategies, so you’re sure to find one that suits your playing style. There’s quite a bit of detail in the specifics of grinding, the areas, the loot, what to auction, and at what level to grind the different zones.
The class guides will really help, too, since a lot of mastering a class has to do with placing talents which is covered in-depth. The loot lists are extensive and you won’t run out of ideas for gear regardless of the level you are. Most items are linked to wow.allakhazam.com, for easy reference of stats.
A very important reason that I recommend this guide is the frequency of updates. I’ve been subscribed since August 2006, and not only do you get all future updates for free, but they also come in a timely manner. For every big patch, including 2.0 and the expansion pack, the Ultimate WoW Guide has delivered updates to the class guides, leveling guides, profession guides and everything else that’s been necessary. In fact, it has even overdelivered.
The price is just right, too, and if you want a guide that covers all classes and a lot of different aspects of WoW, the Ultimate WoW Guide is for you. Click here for more information.
