Just like anybody else I want to save money and pay as little as possible for the things we need. Still, government auction sites sounded too good to be true. I mean if it really were possible to buy jewelry, cars and even real estate for a fraction of the value at government auction sites everybody should be doing it, right?
I would be lying if I said I weren’t more than a little bit skeptical about AuctionsPass’ claims. I imagined that either the auction sites didn’t exist, that they were overrun by eager buyers or that they would only be selling worthless garbage that nobody wanted.
Anyway, I couldn’t resist taking a look. We don’t have that much money and we really needed a second car after my youngest started in nursery and went back to work. So I joined AuctionsPass and crossed my fingers that I would be able to find a cheap and reliable car at some government auction site.
Boy, were I in for a surprise. There are lots of government auctions in each and every state, but they just don’t advertise. Feeling my skepticism fade a little bit I quickly found an auction that would take place close to my work and persuaded my less that interested husband to let me have the car on the day of the auction.
Here comes the second surprise. There were lots and lots of really great things at the auction and almost no people. Who would believe that there are seized and unclaimed properties worth millions of dollars that’s just waiting to be sold for incredible low prices? Looking around at the auction site I found a nice three year old Ford Estate with a starting price of just $100.
Now, if you are as skeptical as I am, you are probably thinking the car would be rather expensive when people finished bidding on it. Well, you will be just as surprised as I was when I made the winning bid. I got our new car for just $240.
You are almost sure to find something at government auction sites no matter what you need and how much money you have. Apparently cars, real estate and tons of other things are seized or left unclaimed everyday and it all end up being sold at these auctions sites.
Joining AuctionsPass might be the best financial decision I have made in years. Sure it cost a few dollars to join, but that’s peanuts compared with the savings I made on our new car and the savings I’ll make at government auction sites in the future.
