about the environment is always important. When it comes to paint strippers
we have tried to narrow down the field for you at Down to Earth Products.
Smart Strip is the latest chemical paint stripper released by Dumond Chemicals
who are the makers of the Peel Away system. Smart Strip is easily one of
the most friendly paint strippers that we have seen in recent years.
The
layers underneath were very soft. Using the Proprep razor sharp
scraper we removed an additional 2 layers without much effort.
Although
not required, the Peel Away paper is used to lock in moisture
and keep the paint stripper wet, active and working longer.
Revolutionary in itself, Smart Strip
is most notable for being safer for the user, the substrate and the
environment. It is classified as non-hazardous, is pH neutral, and does
not contain methylene chloride, caustics, VOCs or NMP. It is a water-based
product and is 100% biodegradable. It is extremely effective at removing
multiple layers of architectural and tough industrial coatings from virtually
all exterior and interior surfaces of wood, brick, metal, concrete, stone,
plaster, fiberglass, etc.
An acquaintance,
who was recently stripping a concrete basement floor, was put
off by the price and dwell time of the environmentally friendly
paint stripper market. Therefore he searched for and found a
far less expensive alternative product that held untold health
hazards. To purchase the product he made an anonymous pickup
at an abandoned dock where a single unmarked 5-gallon container
of liquid was waiting for him. It contained a hand written note
that said “… be careful in allowing this product to come in
contact with anything metal and do not breathe the vapor… “
Keep in mind he would be stripping in the confounds of a basement
that did not have the benefit of any fresh air movement.
