The natural wisdom of healthy weight loss

As a wellness counselor, I am often asked what the best way is for people to lose excess weight. Based on the personality of the person, their lifestyle, and their exercise habits, I might suggest this or the other weight loss supplement as being helpful to the goal. However, it is often assumed that this is all a person needs to do. Nothing could be further from the truth.
THE COLD HARD TRUTH ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS:
No weight loss supplement, however effective, can lead to permanent weight loss unless lifestyle changes are also made. I can say this with complete confidence, based on years of experience in counseling others as well as my own personal struggle with weight loss since I hit peri-menopause.
All the sensible, logical factors you keep reading and hearing about - you know the ones that you are tired of hearing about - matter....
* Moderate exercise, 3 times a week
* Adequate water intake - almost no one drinks enough and when you are losing weight, you need more
* Good nutrition - fresh fruits and veggies, grains, low-fat meat choices. And for most, a huge reduction in "fast foods", fried foods, sugary foods, white flour products and red meat.
* Good sleep - This is a vital issue. Sleep is when the body rejuvenates and repairs. If you are not sleeping well, I can just about guarantee you won't lose the weight you are trying to lose. Related article: Fibromyalgia and Sleep Disruption Cycles
Why don't we sleep well? Number one reason - stress and worry. Get serious about reducing stress thru biofeedback, meditation, hypnosis, etc. Find the stress reduction tools that work for you. THE AMAZING SECRET TO PERMANENT WEIGHT LOSS:
Believe it or not, the very best way to lose weight is to become more healthy. Your body knows precisely what your perfect weight should be. The only reason, (beside menopause which can throw everything wild for a few years) that it errs from that perfection is because it has become less than healthy.
The main reasons we become less than healthy, all of which we've already touched on but all of which bears repeating!
2. Poor Nutrition
3. Poor sleep
4. Inadequate water intake
5. Inadequate physical exercise
6. Inadequate relaxation and entertainment
Once we have become less than healthy, the body puts on weight. It's a side effect of being unhealthy. To reverse it, eat better, reduce stress, drink pure clean water, get exercise, sleep 6-8 hours in a QUIET DARK room (one of the biggest sleep robbers is to have a tv or radio going all night or fall asleep in a room with the lights on. You may think you sleep well but part of your mind is on the words being said all night and part of your melatonin response is missing due to the light so you can't go as deep as you need to go.). Our body rejuvenates during sleep. That should make good sleep a top priority, always.
Detoxing is a often a tremendous weight loss stimulator because once we get the gunk out of our colon, liver, spleen, kidneys, lungs and blood, the body can use the food we are giving it (and we should be giving it fresh fruits and veggies, grilled chicken and fish, and whole grain breads, pastas, cereals, etc.) and when a high level of function is restored thru the body systems, the weight will come off naturally.
The value of diet supplements (there are some good ones and I've used them myself) is to help stimulate a metabolic boost to sort of jump-start the weight loss process but trying to lose weight when you have a toxic system is like trying to flush a toilet bowl when the pipes are clogged. You'll just end up with temporary weight loss followed by even more "less than perfect" health and eventual weight gain in excess of what was lost.
