If you are remodeling your bathroom then you need some squared paper
Before you start work on your bathroom remodeling project you should draw up a plan indicating where all the new stuff is going. If you take care with your measurements and draw the plan accurately then it should be obvious to you whether or not it will work. It’s never a good idea to find out that your plans aren’t going to work when you are half way through so drawing it out on paper first is a a must.
To get you started right away you could purchase the Home Quick Planner. It contains everything that you need including reusable, peel and stick furniture and architectural symbols.
Don’t let the thought of drawing up a plan put you off. It really is very simple. First get some squared paper or graph paper. You can print out some squared paper for free from here.
Don’t be seduced by software
It’s unlikely that you will do any better when designing a small bathroom by using a software application. It might look nice and promise all sorts of 3D views and such but it will take you a lot longer to do the job. At the end of the day you won’t be left with much more than you could have produced with squared paper and some scale cut out shapes of furniture.
Here is a list of arguments against using software:
Bathroom remodeling software can be expensive.
You will need time to learn how to use it.
Producing a design could take longer than using graph paper square.
It isn’t easy to change the design while you are in the showroom.
The software may not do everything you expect it to do.
The squared paper method is very simple
It isn’t difficult to produce a scale drawing. If your bathroom is 10 foot by 12 foot and you have some squared paper with 10 squares by 15 squares then you can simply use the scale 1 foot = 1 square. Your scale drawing would then use 10 squares across the top by 12 squares down.
Cut out all the furniture and fixtures and shuffle them about on the paper
The fun part of using squared paper to design a bathroom is drawing the new items to scale on graph paper and then cutting them out. You can then position them on another sheet of graph paper with a drawing of the room. Experiment with different arrangements of the fixtures until you find a layout that works for you.
Take your time and get your bathroom design right
Every hour you spend up front on the design of your room can save you days of stressful redesign later when you find that something doesn’t work. Get t right on paper first before you start ripping things out.
Think about the bathroom accessories
There are a number of additional things that you will want to put into your bathroom apart from the many fixtures. These include a toilet roll holder, a vanity cabinet, soap dishes and somewhere to put the stuff you need in the shower. Thinking about these before you start can be very helpful.
Floor and wall plans
Draw a plan of the floor space looking down from the ceiling. Then draw plans of each wall as if you were inside the room looking at the wall.
Don’t forget to talk to your contractor about the bathroom remodeling
You must discuss your plan with the contractor to make sure that there isn’t something that you have overlooked. This is easy to do considering all the regulations that have to be adhered to. You should find your contractor very helpful at this stage.
