|“The problem with drug/alcohol addiction rehab”|
How to get clean at home without the time and expense in rehab
Did you know 86% of addicts that go rehab don’t stay clean? Does rehab really work? I give you the truth….
“The statistics from the National Statistics Agency for Substance Misuse in the UK show around 306,150 heroin or crack cocaine dependants during 2010-2011 in England alone. The number of adults in contact with treatment services was 204,473. From that figure, only 27,969 adults completing treatment had no further dependency”
So what can I do?
Let me explain a little about my background first…..
I’m Elaine Eaglestone and I survived living with a heroin addict for 17 years. My partner was not only addicted to Heroin but also used Crack Cocaine, Alcohol and became addicted to those too at various times throughout his addiction life. Life for me as his partner was no joke! During this time, we then had 2 children that I had brought into the equation and subsequently his addiction affected them too.
My partner went to two rehabs, the first rehab he went to was around 9 years after his addiction started, the rehab didn’t work for him so he was asked to leave due to self-harming, however this was not anything to do with the drugs, he just couldn’t handle what they brought to the forefront of his mind and he didn’t know how to deal with it. He decided to stay where the rehab was, in Lancaster, and within a month he was using heroin again, so I brought him back home after everything had fallen apart.
It was very hard understanding how my partner had changed the first time he went to rehab, which again was another one of my reasons for writing the ebook. Families are not involved in the rehab process and I feel it is very important that they should understand how that person has changed as they still see them as the addict they were.
The second rehab did work but this time I did understand how he had changed from the research I had done, but the rehab didn’t involve us as a family and then I felt that something was missing….The link to stay clean and remain as a family!
In August 2011 I decided to write a ebook called “Kick Ass Kick Addiction.” I wanted to help families who had gone through the similar scenarios that I had, but have felt they had no-one or very few people to turn to. Perhaps they didn’t have the funding to send their loved one to rehab or couldn’t get the funding from the Government, or even had their loved one go through rehab and they just quit because they couldn’t handle it. I feel that rehab is restricted in terms of what it can actually do for an addict and generally has a one size fits all approach, but my ebook gives practical advice to overcome their addiction at home with support from the family. I am also running workshops to help addicts and their families too.
Families feel isolated and ashamed that they have a member of the family who is addicted to drugs or alcohol, because Society says they should be. This is how I felt anyway. I thought to myself, even if I could help one person, then all the hard work I have done would have been worth it.
I feel I have a lot to give, as 17 years experience is far better than reading from text books. I understand what it is like living with an addict and how children are affected by this too so I feel I have the knowledge and the experience of how to help someone overcome addiction.
I feel so strongly about helping other addicts and their families that I am also setting up a business based upon the ebook to run workshops/seminars together with other experienced people in the field of addiction, people who have worked in rehabs and people who have worked professionally with addicts in general.
I feel I have learned a lot from my experiences and can now look at the positives it has given me and I have moved on from the hurt and pain and now enjoy my life to the maximum!
From this experience I began to realise it wasn’t those struggling with drug addiction and alcoholism themselves searching for answers to their problems – nearly as much as loved one’s and family members like you, who were looking for information on how to help and deal with someone they care about fighting with addiction.
There is very little information out there specifically designed to help loved one’s and family members of drug addicts and alcoholics deal with the situation they find themselves in.
Now I’m not going to lie to you and promise you some quick fix to the challenges and problems you face…
But I do think through the experience I’ve gained in living with an addict and the research I have done I can help you. You can understand what they can do to improve their lives and help them through recovery and help them to deal with the challenges they have ahead on the road to recovery. You and you loved ones life has the potential to take on a whole new direction from this point!!!
