My name is Lacey. I adopted Axel a year ago while I was in college, when he was only 8 weeks old. Axel was born in a shelter and was one of 6 in his litter. He progressed and developed at a rapid rate, coming in at 86 lbs.! He was house broken within two weeks of owning him.
Incredibly intelligent for his age, axel can perform tricks (when he wants or is bribed with a treat) such as sit, stay, lay down, turn around, bow, speak, and high five. He also knows basic commands, such as "no!", off the bed, down, off, and come.
Axel is an extremely loving, playing and highly energetic dog. On that note, even though Axel is an energetic dog, he is very calm on a day to day basis. He shows his energy when he's outside to play or run! When he isn't enjoying his walks, he loves being lazy and laying on the couch, playing with his toys, or eating a bone. Axel can be protective around the house. He barks once or twice if he hears something at the front door. He has an extremely friendly nature and has never had any aggression issues. He does tend to be cautious or wary of people with darker skin, aggressive dogs and people wearing hoods.
Axel loves to go for rides, especially to the dog park! He loves to run and play with other puppies. With his extremely friendly nature, he is always the hit of the dog park! He does get excited very easily and is always very friendly to other friendly animals.
Axel needs a new home that will have time to spend with him. He would make an amazing family dog. He needs a backyard to play in and a family that will always love him. He needs a lot of love and attention to keep his upbeat self going! Axel's favorite part of the day is just getting hugs and kisses! While he is a very large dog, he is just a baby at heart. He wants to be by you, love on you, and protect you.
Axel has slept in my bed on and off for the past year, but is just fine staying in his cage overnight (which will be going with Axel to his new home). I have not left Axel alone in my home to roam free when I am not home because he howls often if he is not put in his cage while you are gone. However, if you spend sometime working with him and making him feel secure in your home, I know that won't be a problem!
While Axel is not a high maintenance he does have very sensitive skin that needs to taken care to prevent any outbreaks of hot spots or rashes. He receives flea medicine once a month because he is allergic to the saliva of fleas. His food bowls should be washed once a week at least to prevent any mouth sores that he is prone to. As long as he has his flea medicine and he is taken care of properly, his skin should never be a problem.
I have just moved to Los Angles, CA, and no longer have to time to take care of Axel properly, nor the money to spend on his upkeep. With that being said, the overall reason I am trying to find Axel a new home is because I am trying to find him a BETTER home. With a family that has regular hours and enough love to give to him. I want to be confident in knowing that Axel is safe and being well taken care of because just as much as Axel is attached to me, I am equally attached to him.
If you are interested in this amazing dog please contact me as soon as possible. I would like to set up a time to introduce you to Axel and for us to get acquainted. I am wanting to be able to check in once in a while in the beginning, just to know he is still okay. If, at any point EVER, you find yourself in the same position I am in now, and have to get rid of Axel, I want him to be returned to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read this long bio on Axel! If he sounds like the dog for you, please get in contact with me. I look forward to hearing for you!
Email me and I will send photos!
