Offered for sale is this rare, heirloom quality, antique, leather King James Version, Illustrated Explanatory, Pictorial Family Bible by John E. Potter and Company of Philadelphia, No. 617, sansom street; published in the 1880’s. I am not sure of the exact date the bible was published, but the marriage certificate page is dated Oct 1849. The bible is in very good condition with all the pages except chapter 19. The complete chapter has been removed. There are other minor imperfections of aging such as age spots, small tear at the back where the binding begins, and a pulling away of the bonding from the spine on the first few cover pages but is not noticeable until you open the bible. Otherwise it is in great condition and has been well taken care of. It is in its original condition, no restorations have been done. The measurements are 12.5 “X 10”X 4” in depth.
The bible contains the books of the Apocrypha, Psalms in Metre, and Marginal References and Readings. It also includes a Pictorial History of the Books of the Bible by Rev Washington B. Erben, Rector of the Church of the redeemer, Philadelphia, and the Christian Denominations of the World, their doctrines, Government and History, as well as Blackwood’s Concise Treatise on The Genuineness, Authenticity, Inspiration, Preservation and Value of The Word of God; a History of the Translations into English, Tables of the Parables, Miracles and Discourses of Jesus Christ, and a Variety of Useful and Valuable Tabular and other Historical and Explanatory Matter, and Several Hundred Engravings, Maps and plans , on wood and steel. This bible has everything in one and will serve as a great study guide without having to have multiple references. It is a true rare classic that you will want to keep and pass on to one generation to the next.
Also included with this bible is an antique gold bronze bible stand by George J. Flanagan that is engraved with his name. The stand is finished with a gold bronze finish, with a nickeled center rod, and iron legs castored. This is a great package combination…A rare antique bible with a high quality bible stand. Priceless! Please email me with questions.
