We have an spayed 7 year old Akita/German Shepherd mix. Our home has 5 cats and 2 dogs. We have had Rosie since she was 16 weeks. She had a ruff start to life and was found at a dog park, tied to a tree and in poor condition. She was severely under weight, and had an injury to her right hip. The injury to her hip ended up being a life long injury. The hip joint grew incorrectly and she has limited use of the hip. She has adapted well and makes the best of her situation. She walks and runs without much issue, but does tire easily. It doesn't require regular vet visits, it just is what it is. She treats it like having only 3 legs.

She is the sweetest, most loyal, wonderful companion. I work from home so she spends a lot of time with me. She is always at my feet and follows me from room to room.

She has lived and exposed to small children her whole life. She is very sweet and patient with children. She has strong maternal instincts.

We have discovered through the years she has some issues. Due to her abuse at a younger age, she is shy around new males. With patience she adjusts, but must be given the time to meet slowly.

She can be aggressive with other dogs. She currently lives with a German Shepherd fine, but when introduced to some other dogs she can be aggressive. I believe it is a protective nature due to her hip problem. She is the alpha in our home.

She has lived with multiple cats, but I think she should go to a home without cats. She has a chase instinct, she thinks it is a game. She doesn't want to hurt them, but enjoys chasing them. If caught she holds them down with her paw, then sniffs and licks to her delight. Kitties generally are not happy with this game, and it can get ugly.

I don't want to send her to the shelter where they could put her down. She has a lot of good years left on her, and she deserves a good safe home.
