FAQ: Frequently asked questions
What types of ventilation does Trilogy100 provide? Trilogy100 provides both volume and pressure ventilation and delivers the therapy either invasively or noninvasively.
What circuit types can be used with Trilogy100? Trilogy100 can be used with two different circuits or exhalation ports/valves. Both pressure and volume ventilation can be achieved with either porting block, but the porting block must match the type selected in the set up screens. Circuit type Exhalation porting block Ventilatory support type Passive exhalation port - Whisper Swivel 2 Simple porting block Noninvasive and invasive Pressure and volume ventilation Active exhalation with proximal airway pressure (PAP) valve Porting block with pressure and exhalation ports Noninvasive and invasive pressure and volume ventilation
Is the information shown on the monitoring screen the ventilator settings or actual patient data? The information shown is actual patient data.
What are the two triangles on the pressure bar graph when in volume ventilation mode? The two triangles indicate the low pressure and high pressure alarm settings.
What types of events are included in the Event log? The Event log lists all events that occur such as alarms and setting changes. The log retains the last 12,000 events that have occurred on the device.
What types of events are in the Alarm log? The Alarm log displays the alarms in chronological order. It lists the last 20 alarms.
What is Dual Prescription? Trilogy100 allows for both Primary and Secondary settings to be retained. This allows the user to have day/night settings and eliminates the need to change each parameter. This feature helps reduce possible mistakes when switching from one set of settings to the other.
Does Trilogy100 have patient monitoring? Yes, in addition to the items monitored on the user interface, Trilogy100 utilizes a secure digital (SD) memory card that allows the transfer of information. Using DirectView ventilation management software, Trilogy100 provides data that is helpful for clinical decision-making.
What does the ball on the left side of the bar graph mean? A flashing ball means that the patient has initiated his or her own breath. If the ball does not appear, the breaths are machine-initiated.
Is it possible to change the alarm volume? Yes, the alarm volume can be changed from soft to loud. Soft is no quieter than 45 decibels and loud is no louder than 85 decibels.
What is the battery technology? The internal and detachable batteries are lithium ion. The external battery is lead acid.
What is the shelf life of the batteries? Shelf life of the batteries is one year under normal storage conditions after shipment from Respironics.
How long will Trilogy100 run on a battery? Trilogy100 contains an internal battery that should last approximately three hours. Trilogy100 also has a detachable battery that may be attached to the unit to give up tos an additional three hours of battery life. An external battery may also be attached to Trilogy100 for additional battery life.
Is it possible to overcharge the internal battery? No, the device will not overcharge the internal or external battery.
What is the life expectancy of internal and detachable batteries? Respironics recommends that you replace the detachable and internal batteries when they have reached 400 cycles or more. A cycle is a full discharge and a full recharge. The ventilator counts cycle times and will provide an alarm to alert the caregiver that the detachable or internal battery needs to be replaced.
How long does it take to charge the internal and detachable batteries? It will take approximately 8 hours to charge both batteries from depletion.
If both the internal and external batteries have no life remaining, the device will automatically first charge the internal battery half way. Trilogy100 then charges the detachable battery half way. Once the batteries are half charged, the ventilator will then simultaneously charge both batteries until full.
Once the batteries are fully charged, how much time will it take to empty the batteries if the device is not used? Batteries not in use will deplete in 80 days under normal storage conditions.
Does Trilogy100 display the amount of charge remaining in the battery? Yes, the internal, detachable, and external battery symbols appear on the screen. The number of green bars on a symbol indicates the amount of charge remaining.
The detachable battery indicator shows five green lights on the user interface to read battery life when not inserted into the unit. To illuminate these lights, press the button on the detachable battery.
How much battery time is remaining when it alarms? The five bars that appear on each of the battery icons represent the percentage of life remaining in a specific battery. If three bars appear, 60 percent of battery life remains.
At 20 minutes of battery life remaining, Trilogy100 will audibly alarm and visually indicate with a yellow color for a medium priority.
At 10 minutes of battery life remaining, Trilogy100 will audibly alarm and visually indicate with a red color for a high priority.
Do the internal and detachable batteries retain a memory of hours used? The batteries are lithium ion and will not retain a memory of a short amount of usage time.
Can Trilogy100 charge an external battery? No, Trilogy100 can only charge the internal and detachable batteries when the unit is plugged into AC power. A battery charger must be used to recharge an external battery.
