I am a very proud owner of 10 pet rats. I have 6 males and 4 females. Originally I started out with 2 males and 2 females, but then unexpectedly my two females got pregnant. We were blessed with 29 babies ontop of the 4 we already had. We were able to find loving home for most of them; and out of the 29 we kept 6. Just recently one of the babies that I kept was able to get pregnant and I have noticed that she has started gaining weight, so I am fairly convinced that she is pregnant. I approximate her to be about 1 1/2-2 weeks along, which means that she will be due in about 1- 1 1/2 weeks. Being that she has not had her babies yet, I am unsure as to how many she will have; or the genders and colors of the babies. What I want to do in the meantime is try to find some great homes for the upcoming babies. I am potty training all of my adult rats at the moment, so what I am really hoping is that when my little Nala has her babies; that when they get older they will learn to use the litter pan just like their mommy. What this means for any buyer is that they will be getting extremely friendly rats, who are completely socialized, plus they will be healthy and best of all potty trained! This is something that is impossible to find at any pet store; and far as I know isn't common with other hobby breeders. I am doing this just to make things easier for the future homes and also provide the world with some amazing rats just like the ones that I have. I can guarantee that they will be the most friendly rats you have ever seen.
Rats are great pets for those who may not have the amount of time needed for a dog, or maybe someone who lives in an apartment setting and can't have big animals, and they are especially great for older kids to teach them responsibility. My love for rats came in 5th grade when my class had them, and I was able to adopt one of the two by the end of the experiment.
I am looking to sell these babies as PETS ONLY with NO EXCEPTIONS; NOT SNAKE FOOD! What I am looking to charge is probably going to be $15 for one rat alone and if pairs are bought I will charge $20 for two rats. The main reason I am actually charging for these unlike my previous litters is the fact that I am putting so much work to make sure they are healthy, clean, taken care of, and even potty trained. It definitely takes a lot of work to provide the food and bedding as well as toys, hammocks, igloos just so that these babies are happy. All the money that will be charged will be put right back into the rats and help to compensate me for all of the food and bedding that I put into them. Being that our rats are bred in a loving home, it means that they were not mistreated, malnurished, or disease ridden like most rats that may be sold to big pet stores.
A little bit about the parents:
The Mother: Nala is a very sweet, loving, petite rat. She is mostly black in color with a white belly and also a very adorable mis mark stripe on her face. She lives with her cagemate sister Ebony who is also very sweet and loving; both are in a large rabbit cage. Before getting pregnant she was at a very healthy weight of about 8.8 oz with very soft fur.
The Father: Dodger is a character. He is the favorite of many that meet my rats. He actually is my free roaming rat. He has many different sleeping spots all over my bedroom and closet. He is friends with my little dog and even though he lives on his own, he still gets plenty of good play time when his brothers come out. He is a black hooded rat with a thick stripe all the way down his back to his tail. He maintains a healthy weight with his exercise. What is the best about him is that he is extremely friendly and loving. He loves to give anyone kisses and groom anyone that holds him. He can be very rambunctious and adventurous. Watching him run around in his element is quite amusing.
I expect that they will produce some amazing babies. Being that they are both friendly, healthy, and loving; their babies should be as well.
Anyway, we are really hoping to find some great homes for these babies ahead of time. Since it is 6-7 weeks away for them to be able to leave their nice warm home here; anyone interested will have plenty of time to contact me, speak with me, and even prepare to bring one or maybe two home. I am also open to having people come see all my rats as well as the babies after they are born.
It is suggested that if an owner decides to get these pets, that they get two of the same sex so they have a companion when the owner may not be able to play with them on a daily basis. It is also okay to just get one, they are just happier with a friend =)
Please let me know if you may be interested in adopting these adorable babies; just remember to always do research in preperation before rushing into bringing a pet into your home. It's important to know what is needed to be done with each type of pet.
Also don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. I really hope to find homes for these babies so when the day comes to leave home they will have a loving home already lined up!
