To clarify the "Mexican Connection" about which there has been confusion:
While lower-end Benotto's were made in Mexico, the Columbus SL tubing frames were made in Italy then shipped to Mexico for final finishing before shipping to USA and other destinations.
It isn't true that starting around 1984 all Benotto's were made in Mexico. Italy still made high-end frames. And, yes, it is rather easy to spot the difference if you've seen any of the frames made in Mexico.
This info was confirmed from reliable sources.
THIS frame was owned by the Dream Machine Bike Shop (no longer in business), a long-time dealer in BENOTTO racing bikes in Collierville, TN., and was ridden by one of their racing team members.
