Cleantech Investment DealsCleantech investments is certainly getting more and more diversified, here are some interesting deals done recently and in the past, this shows where the capital is flowing. IPOs, IPOsCleantech companies are certainly some of the best performing stocks on the market, as well as IPO activities. Success in IPOs have generated continuing interest from investors, and produce excellent returns and capital back to venture capital firms. One helpful factor is the recent spate of successful green-company initial public offerings, including electric vehicle maker Tesla Motors.The solar sector drew $641 million in capital, with the largest chunk going to BrightSource Energy Inc, a developer of solar fields. Investors see that company as likely to seek an IPO this year.After solar, the largest flows of money went to companies developing electric vehicles, which drew $311 million. The largest investment in that area went to Fisker Automotive, a maker of luxury plug-in hybrids, which raised $150 million from a group of venture funds as well as battery maker A123 Systems Inc.Mergers & AcquisitionsThe volume of mergers and acquisitions hit $15.3 billion in the quarter, lifted by DuPont Co's $6 billion takeover of Denmark's Danisco, a deal that was announced in January but has not yet closed.There are more M&A activities coming out this year; our research shows that the sectors most likely to undergo M&A activities including: solar sectors, which could be led by US and Chinese solar companies, wind energy sectors are also undergoing consolidation phase in Europe and certain parts of US, we are also seeing increasing M&A activities amongst environmental services sectors such as waste management, engineering and site remediation services.Power ProjectsPower, utilities, infrastructure projects continue to attract investors. For instance, Greengate Power Corp from Alberta, Canada had raised capital from Californian investors today to rollout wind farms in Alberta. European & Chinese wind farm projects were able to secure more financing during this quarter. Latin America continues to be a major emerging market for wind power projects, and more projects are expected in Brazil, Chile and Peru this year.
