One of the most important decisions you’ll make as you get started blogging is which niche you’ll enter. Of course, you can blog about literally anything you want to online! That doesn’t mean that every single topic will be profitable, however. If you want to make money with your blog, then you’ll definitely have to put some thought into niche research and choosing a niche that has buyers.
There are way too many people who think that they can just put up a blog, write some nonsense, and start making gobs of money right away. If only that were the case! You can’t just blog about your day and expect to make a lot of money online. In general, people care about themselves, their friends and family, and their needs, passions and hobbies — not what you had for breakfast.
That’s why it is a much better idea to choose a niche where people are already actively spend money. You also have to be careful to choose a niche where people are actively searching for information. When you combine the two of these things as a blogger, you will definitely have a winner — as long as you set up your blog in the right way!
For instance, many Internet marketers choose to set up a blog in the Internet marketing niche. This niche is quite saturated, but there are definitely sub-niches that are highly profitable and easier to make a name for yourself within. This niche is one where people are always searching for information and are always spending money. These two things combined make having an Internet marketing blog a good idea for many people. Keep in mind that this is not the right route for everyone, and that other niches might be a better option for you.
For instance, perhaps you are a new mom or dad and you realize the weight loss struggles many moms face after giving birth. You could start a blog focused on this topic. You know that people are actively searching out this information and that they are willing to spend money to get their solution. It is also a lot less saturated than the standard weight loss niche. This is just one of the many niches and sub-niches that are out there to choose from!
You will want to use standard niche research practices in order to make your decision. Browse the trending topics on Google at: http://www.google.com/trends, popular blogs at: http://blogsearch.google.com/, best-selling nonfiction books at: http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Non-Fiction, magazine topics at: http://www.magazines.com, and so on to generate ideas. Then, you’ll really want to dive deep with some keyword and market research to determine if there are products you can be an affiliate for in the niche you are interested in.
You definitely do not want to skip the niche research part! You are not going to make a lot of money if you do. Run a profitable blog by doing the research first.
