Attraction Info Opened in 2000, the Noble Maritime Collection is a museum and study center than chronicles the last years of the Age of Sail. It is housed in the rehabilitated Snug Harbor Cultural Center and features the collection of art work and artifacts of John A. Noble. The main exhibit of the collection is the houseboat studio of Noble with many of the art pieces he created during his time there. The entire museum is celebration of New York City's working waterfront district and houses many educational exhibits that include the history of Sailor Snug Harbor. This was the oldest charitable institution in the United States and served as a retirement home for sailors.
One of the newest exhibits at the center is The Noble Crew Exhibition. This exhibition is in memory of John A. Santore, a firefighter who started the Noble Crew and was killed in the World Trade Center in the 9/11 attack. Santore led a volunteer effort that helped raise over a million dollars of donated time, labor and materials to rehabilitate the center's Building D for the museum.
