Everyone loves to learn about sea life and the New York Aquarium is proof positive that one does not need to live by the ocean to enjoy everything an aquarium has to offer. Operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society, the aquarium is located at Coney Island and offers visitors the chance to see sharks, sea otters, seahorses and more in its varied exhibits. The Sea Cliffs offer visitors a chance to see penguins, seals, and walruses in a natural habitat setting and there are interactive, hands on exhibits for visitors to try.
Recently the Wildlife Conservation Society launched a 10 year initiative to revamp the aquarium and Coney Island in an effort to bring this area of New York back to life. The initiative, called Sea Change has been developed to renovate the Coney Island Boardwalk while also furthering efforts to protect the local marine life that is found in New York Harbor. A new shark exhibit is planned as well as new aquatic habitat displays. The new design and infrastructure of the aquarium will be environmentally friendly and more sustainable. The aquarium and Coney Island has been the most popular attraction in Brooklyn for decades.
