Just a short "overview" of what all may be involved in the removal and finishing of a sprayed texture "popcorn" type ceiling; There are several "basic steps" in removal of textured popcorn ceilings. 1) The prep involved in each room where "popcorn ceilings" are to be removed includes installations of tarps and plastic coverings and the various stages of wetting agents applied to the ceiling - this make take several applications based on thickness, whether ceilings have been re-painted etc. etc. (2) scraping the "popcorn" material off the ceiling - this gets very nasty and slippery etc.; All removals also might create or expose areas of joint tape that will require additional taping / floating / skim-coating with joint compound.(3) All "finish" Tape / Float / Texture as required; Proper tape and flaot will be required for proper "hiding" of joints; This is one of the most "critical" phases as the bare joints, nail holes, pops, etc. need to be properly hidden to leave the ceiling ready to be textured and painted. (4) PAINTING - requires a sealer coat (1) and a Finish Coat (1) Other issues that become a part of this quote include: Remove / Reset Light Fixtures etc.; all furniture protections; Plastic Sheeting on floors and walls; protection of electrical outlets etc. etc. etc.
