To be honest there is no exact number of calories that we should eat to lose weight To give you an idea, if you impose a 1500 calorie diet, you should naturally shed the pounds. This is only a rule of thumb, and to to help you further you can use this method:-
11 x your actual weight = the actual amount of calories that are required every day for your body to operate correctly.
Here is an example
Sarah's weight is 150. 11 x 150 = 1650.
The daily amount of calories Sarah needs = 1650 calories per day.
If you exceed this amount your weight will increase as your body stores this excessive calorie intake as fat. Taking in less than this in calories results in weight loss.
To keep the weight off reuse the calculation.
Calories required for weight loss
3,500 calories intake, equates to an increase of 1 lb. Since it is best to lose no more than a pound a week. cutting out 3,500 calories should result in the weekly loss of 1lb.
Somebody that weighs 170 lbs. requires 1,870 calories a day, or 13,090 calories per week, a reduction of the weekly intake to 9,590 calories. This translates to 1,370 calories per day. By cutting 500 calories from their diet every day, they can safely lose 1 lb. a week.
Warning - Don't over do it
You should never reduce your calorie intake below 1,200 calories a day, as this is unsafe, unhealthy and can actually send the body into what is known as a starvation mode.
Starvation mode can result in weight gain. The body stores the calories as a preservation strategy.
Always remember to revert back to the calculation as you lose the weight.
