The award comes with official ribbon and is in Extremely Fine condition. The medal disc and suspension are original. The Trafalgar bar facing is a tailor's copy. The British Naval General Service Medal, 1793-1840, was awarded in 1849 to survivors only, of naval actions between 1793-1840. The Trafalgar clasp was awarded to military personnel who were present at the Battle of Trafalgar on October 21, 1805, and who were still living in 1849. This naval battle, the most famous of the Napoleonic Wars, is well-known for Lord Nelson's victory over the Franco-Spanish fleet. Only 1,710 full-size Naval General Service Medals, 1793-1840, with Trafalgar clasp were awarded. R0283
