3 Tips on How to Get a Children’s Book Published
How to get a children’s book published is the most confusing step in becoming a successful author. Here are 3 tips that should help you get published.
Tip # 1 – Don’t mail your manuscript directly to a publisherNo established publishing house accepts any unsolicited manuscript unless it has come through a literary agent. Any manuscript an author sends unsolicited to a publisher is never read; it goes straight into a paper shredder.
Tip # 2 – Hire a literary agent who knows how to get a children’s book published
You can find a literary agent either by mailing query letters or by being recommended to an agent. This Tip covers the first way; Tip # 3 covers the second way.
Whereas publishing houses won’t read your manuscript, literary agents do read ideas for manuscripts (known as query letters or proposals), and decide whether they believe an author has promise. Focus on sending your material only to agents who represent authors of children’s books. These agents know how to get a children’s book published. There are excellent guides available, either online or at your public library, that lists literary agents, describe what they like to represent and how to contact them.

Tip # 3 – Networking with other writers to find a literary agent
The absolute best way to find a literary agent is to have another writer refer you to their agent. Meet other writers by joining writers’ associations and don’t be a wallflower after joining. Network the organization completely by offering to help set up association events, serve on committees, etc. If there isn’t a writers’ association near your home, start one. Other writers are a wonderful resource of information on how to get a children’s book published. More Information
