ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL AIR KING AUTOMATIC PRECISION SS
Before WWII Rolex was the favorite brand of long-distance flyers and had become the watch of choice for Battle of Britain fighter pilots. Rolex's founder, Hans Wilsdorf, (who, ironically, was German-born) was so moved by this distinction, he decided to honor these brave men with a new line of manual wind Oysters: The “Air” line. Rolex began producing larger watches and baptizing them with names like "Air Tiger," "Air Lion," "Air Giant," and "Air King”. They remained in production until the early 1960s, but in the end only the Air-King survived and was eventually fitted with an automatic movement. This model is sought for its reliability, high-grade movement, classic style and collectible value.

The Case
Original Rolex case with integrated lugs, original Rolex crown and screw-in stainless steel back. Excellent overall condition. It measures 34 mm across without the crown, and 39.5 mm long. Signed inside Montres Rolex SA, Geneva Switzerland, Patented, Stainless Steel, #1002.
Original Rolex bracelet made of stainless steel, #7205. Rolex logo on the clasp, which is also signed on the back Rolex, Patented & Registered, Steelinox, Swiss made. It fits a wrist of up to 7 inches.
The Dial
Original Rolex silver dial with brushed finish. It has silver stick hands and applied hour markers. Center seconds hand. Excellent original condition, without details of any kind. It is signed Rolex Oyster Perpetual, Air-King, Precision, Swiss. Applied Rolex crown logo at 12.
The crystal is acrylic, excellent condition.
The Movement
Original and signed, this Swiss made movement is automatic and has 26 Fine Rubies. It is powered by a Rolex Caliber 1520. It is signed Rolex Geneva Swiss. Excellent condition, working well. |
