The Spanish Cobb coins were hand crafted around the 1500s to 1600s thus, making each coin differerent and unique. This coin is a Spanish Treasure Coin, New World Era, or the Age Of Discovery. Not long after Columbus discovered the New World, vast amounts of silver & gold were discovered in Mexico, Central and South America. Much of the bullion from the New World was sent to Spain in the form of coinage referred to as Cobbs, or Reales. Once turned into coins, Spanish Fleets then transported the gold & silver coinage along a northern route through the Gulf Of Mexico along the Florida coast for delivery to the King & Queen of Spain. This coin is similiar to one of the coins that were lost at sea and then recovered over the years at Verol Beach Florida from the 1715 Plate Fleet, bound via Mexico City mints. Nice representative piece of a bygone era! Coin ships in an acrylic slab.
