EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND! The coin in the photo is the coin that is for sale. A brilliant start to Japan's Prefecture Coin Series, the first release of the program celebrates Hokkaido. A typically high-quality release from the Japan Mint, there is no doubt that this crown-sized silver Proof will be sought after by collectors worldwide. Released to coincide with the 2008 Group of Eight summit, hosted by Hokkaido, each 40mm 31.1g sterling silver Proof carries a distinctive design symbolizing Japan's largest, northernmost province. Enhanced with a multiplicity of colors, each coin depicts red crowned cranes, an official symbol of Hokkaido, flying above Toya Lake. Set in an official case, each 1,000 Yen includes a Certificate of Authenticity. This is the first in the "47 Prefectures" silver proof coin series from the Japan Mint, with other coins to be issued over the coming years.

Very Hard To Find! The Shimane Silver Proof is the third coin in the long-running "47 Prefectures" coin series issued by the Japan Mint. A legal tender coin of spellbinding beauty, and superbly presented in an official Japan Mint case with Certificate of Authenticity included as part of the packaging, the new full-colour 2008 Shimane 1,000 Yen Silver Proof taps into the heart of Ancient Japanese culture. Located on the island of Honshu, Shimane's history begins in mythology, with the Shinto god ?kuninushi thought to live in the Shimane province of Izumo. Shimane, while being only the 2nd least populated prefecture in Japan, is widely known for its beauty and flora. With the latest in modern minting techniques the 40mm flan of this 31.1g sterling silver Proof shares this beauty in its full-color depiction of the Mooutan Peony, the floral emblem of Shimane that has been in existence there since the 18th century. Also shown is an image of a Otoriosame-Chogin, currency made from silver from the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine and used in the 16th century. The obverse is common to the silver proof version of prefecture coins and shows a mix of snow crystals, the moon and cherry blossoms with the 1000 Yen denomination. The coin is housed within official packaging that also doubles as a certificate of authenticity. Only 10,000 of these are available for worldwide distribution.
