Cat owners, have you ever dreaded about litter training a cat? I can relate. When I got my first cat, Buddy, all I pictured was the mess that she might leave all over the house and how I would have to clean it up.
Here's the good news. Don't panic, it does take patience but if you use proper training, your cat will learn to do his business where he is supposed to and not anywhere else in your home.
So, what are the 3 proven steps to litter training a cat?
They include:
1. Use clumping litter - There are many different types of cat litter available for sale. I suggest clumping litter because after your cat uses his box, the litter will ball up or clump with the cats waste making it easier for you to scoop up and dispose of along with the smell.
2. Show your cat where the litter box is located - This is an important part to litter training a cat. You want to make sure your cat knows where to go. You can even place your cat inside the box to make him feel welcome.
3. Keep the litter box clean daily - No cat likes to do his business in a dirty litter box. In fact, you might find that poor litter box maintenance will cause the cat to find a better spot to go. A better spot for the cat, not for you. Remove waste daily and change the entire litter box weekly.
Make sure you follow these steps other wise you better prepare yourself for the mess and smell.
